Bold Conversation with Carol Newell Thursday April 19th at NOON, EST
Thursday, April 19, 2012 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM (EDT)
Carol Newell wants you to unlearn your manners; at least your money manners. According to Carol, the rules we’ve learned about money encourage isolation and confusion. Rules like “Don’t touch the principle” and “Maximize your profits at any and all cost” can hold us back when we could be more generous and generative. Carol turned these rules inside out almost twenty years ago when she decided to activate her large inheritance to provide investments and grants in her beloved British Columbia. Now, the ripple effects of the businesses, organizations and institutions she funded have far exceeded her original vision – they are generating green jobs, vibrant, interconnected local communities, and support for a healthy environment. Carol will share her journey and her joy in helping others recycle their extra wealth into resilient local economies. “ I think that those who have extraordinary wealth also have an extraordinary opportunity to boost and strengthen their local economies – What are we saving for?”
Bold Conversations is a monthly phone discussion hosted by Anne Ellinger, co-founder of Bolder Giving (www.boldergiving.org). Each month you can join a conversation with an extraordinary giver who will share strategies, challenges, and excitement about their giving.
The format of each Bold Conversation is a 60 min. free teleconference call. Anne and the featured guest talk, pausing frequently for questions and comments from listeners. We aim for an informal, interactive, and frank discussion where listeners apply lessons to their own giving. You can also listen to archived conversations and join online chats with Bold Givers hosted by the Chronicle of Philanthropy.
